Conor "Lyman"
Coach

Lyman has attended several years of camp, and is the full package when it comes to coaching. He has personality, passion when it comes to working with students. Not to mention looks identical to professional rider Keith Lyman. We gave him the nick name at camp four years ago. Ironically, Alliance Wakeboard Magazine ran a photo spread last year of both Lyman's together posing the question...Which one is the real Keith Lyman?

Ryan "stache" Block
Coach :

Stache was also a camper of many years before joining the staff here at camp. Stache was always one of the most determined campers in the boat. What stood out about Stache to us was his encouragement and attitude toward other campers. After years of watching and grooming Stache as a camper, it was only a matter of time until he became part of our family.

B-Rad "rad" Larkin
Coach :

The longest running staff member at camp. Brad had been around since the day camp opened 10 years ago. He is know for creating the fun environment that west coast camps is famous for.

Brandon "BG" George
Coach :

BG is know throughout the industry for his fun natured attitude,
as well as his amazing ability to kill it on a wakeboard. There are few riders around these days with as many years on a wakeboard as this guy.

ESSENTIAL STAFF QUALITIES

wakeboard coaching veratility and comunication at wakeboard camp

Each camper is unique.  Everyone has a different background.  Many times our coaches will pull from a campers experience in other areas in life to help communicate wakeboard principles.  Being able to quickly form analogies to communicate successfully with each camper is a true skill that sets our staff apart from any other.

“I’ve witnessed fully capable instructors (not employed by WCC); give poor or lacking experiences with their students just because they were tired, uninterested, or more concerned with their cell phone. Coaching wakeboarding is not an easy task.  Every moment you’re constantly analyzing body positions, handle placement, edges and more.  Then you’re compressing the results into a more basic language for the student to understand.  On top of that, it takes personality to make it fun.  It takes a strong work ethic, compassion for others, a fun personality and a true passion for the sport to make a solid instructor.  I’ve been blessed to work with such an overqualified staff.  It’s been God working through our staff that has made this place as great as it is today. ” Mike schwenne

trust camp coaching at west coast wakeboard camps

Without trust, a coach can only have minimal impact.  There are two elements which are absolutely essential for trust to occur.

  1. Coach’s experience: Our campers need to know that their coach knows what they are talking about.  First of all when it comes to coaching.  Second when it comes to riding.  We believe coaches need to be able to do the tricks that they are coaching. We also require numerous hours and even years of prior coaching experience to be accepted into our elite coaching staff.  Let’s face it; no one wants to be the first patient a doctor operates on.
  2. Personal experience with Coach: Strong trust comes when there is an authentic friendship between a camper and a coach.  When the camper knows that the coach cares and has their best interest in mind; they can then begin to venture out of their comfort zones.  Our goal is for each camper to have a unique friendship with one of our staff members here at camp.  That is why it is important for us to have a coed staff.  “One of my groomsmen, Ryan Andrews, in my wedding started off as a camper.  Three of my groomsmen were coaches from camp, if that’s any indicator of the type of friendships formed at camp.”  Mike Schwenne
