Wakesurfing at Camp
Learn to surf perfect endless waves all summer long without the crowds.
No experience necessary…fun is guaranteed. West Coast Camps is the longest running Wake Surfing camp established back in 2002. With slower speeds and softer falls, Wakesurfing has become an industry of its own over the past several years. The feeling of riding a wave without being attached to anything can ‘t quite be compared to anything else. What’s even better, is that learning to wakesurf is very transferable to the ocean. After a few sessions behind the boat on the endless wave you will be more than prepared to surf in the ocean.
Whether you are looking to get up on a Wakesurf for your first time or dial in some new tricks we’ve got you covered. Similar to our coaching system for wake boarding, we teach you to master the technique for numerous smaller steps which make surfing without the rope, and surfing in the ocean much easier. We traditionally offer wakesurfing as an option for our afternoon sessions. However, we have campers that come solely to surf which that is fine by us.
West Coast Camps and Mike Schwenne have a long history when it comes to wake surfing. “Coming from Santa Cruz, I surfed before Wakeboarding was ever considered a sport. We were always bringing out surfboards to ride behind the boat. In 2002 the first wake surf company inland surfer was born and I quickly jumped on board with them. I was stoked just to be able to ride the best boards out back then, but I ended up being one of the first surfers featured in the magazine because of that relationship. I would later design a board called the quad with Jimmy Nudo the founder of Lost Surfboards. In 2015 Hyperlite licensed and manufacturing that board. It became a number one selling board and started showing up on the top of the podiums with pro wake surfers.” Mike Schwenne
